What's the purpose of this tool?

The goal of this tool is to help you, through repetition, learn the basic chords and scales used in jazz. To play a chord on the piano, you need to know where its root, 3rd, 5th and 7th are located. If you want to add color, you also need to know the 9th, 11th and 13th (alterations are at this point not supported.) A side benefit is that you'll learn the basic scales at the same time, in all keys. For example, playing the root, 9th, 3rd, 11th, 5th, 13th, and 7th of the CΔ chord in sequence is the same as playing the C Ionian scale.

How to use this tool?

Click the Start button to start a new test session
You can click on any key that matches the answer, regardless of the octave
You can stop the session at any time by clicking Stop
You can fine-tune the tool options by clicking on Options

Chord/scales tone tables

Click the Tables link in the navigation menu to get the answers to all the questions the tool might ask.
